de-lettering myself and simplifying things is the result of a discussion and a series of thoughts about logos and how they affect our lives.
thinking about myself in relation to logos was difficult.I haven’t really worn them since I was about 13. but then I remembered that I actually wear lots of sample clothing, which I accumulated over the years while working as a menswear designer (during a period of complete burnout). all of these garments are stamped on the inside with the word SAMPLE. I started to wonder if, in a way, I do wear a logo.
so I decided to make the invisible visible. I copied the internal stamp graphic and reproduced it on the outside of a t-shirt. what was once hidden is now a statement.
on the inside instead, where the stamp used to be, I played with the word SAMPLE by turning it into SIMPLE. just a little reminder to to myself that everything is simple or can be simplified.
many thanks to Michele Galluzzo and Motelsalieri.
